Exhibiting Artist

Sophia Louisa

Paintings / Charcoal & Chalk

Sophia Louisa began displaying her work to the public in 2003 at Cafe Tu Tu Tango at Universal City Walk. For more than a year she would take a blank canvas and a bag of oil paints on a Saturday evening to paint in front of the hundreds of tourist. The experience of painting live in front of young and old alike gave her a newfound confidence in her work, which was all the more validated with sales of her work.

A self taught artist, Sophia Louisa continues to study the work of all art forms: learning from books, trips to museumes and galleries, and even from day tot day activities with her child. Sophia Louisa prefers to create abstract works of expressionism. Unsing this style to symbolize that that is most important to her.

All of her works portray movment. Her palate is vibrant and alive with passion. She is a prolific painter and her work is rapidly being discovered. Developing from her first show in 2003, with hard work and determination, she was featured in twenty-two group shows and galleries in 2004. In 2005 she had her first solo show in Pasadena, and was featured in twenty-six shows and galleries through out the Los Angeles area. Her perserverance continues, as does her desire to capture raw emotion.

Erik Quiel

Art glass

I am inspired by the colors around me and look to make pieces that are not only ascetically pleasing to the eye, but provide something that illustrates my commitment to glass blowing. I have studied the traditional processes of blowing glass for the past five years. My education has consisted of art classes at local schools as well as seminars abroad which include Murano, Italy and Corning, Pennsylvania. I have been a member of the glass Art Society for several years.

Chris Wright

Woodturning

Woodturning to me is one of the most intimate of all art forms.  The curves, the colors, the texture all beg to be touched.  I begin with what was once a living entity, its body destined for decay or destruction.  I only use woods that have been found as deadfall, or as planned harvesting.  I do not support those that would take the life of a healthy tree simply to make a dollar or two.  From these pieces, I work to create a new life for that tree, one that will hopefully allow others to appreciate its inner beauty, the swirling grain patterns, amazing colors and textures.  Wood has a natural warmth to it; it is one of the few mediums that you can still sense the trees life long after it has been worked with, almost as if part of its soul remains with its new body.

While a majority of my work celebrates life, nature and fun; my relatively new series "Darkness" looks at the other side of our emotions.  Life can be just as painful, chaotic and dark as it can be a joy.  "Darkness" embodies those emotions that we prefer not to experience but can all relate to at one time or another in our lives.  The darker colors, rough textures and exposed elements bring to form those feelings that encompass the darker times in our lives.

In all of my work, I strive for sensuous, flowing curves; trying to create an intimacy between the two of you so that you may find yourself drawn to the lines of a piece so much so that to touch it becomes a desire.  Touch is but one sense with which to enjoy art, so for the eyes I use wood rich in grain patterns or natural color and where these are not; I introduce vivid colors, deep ocean blues, bright sun-fire yellows, lush forest greens, all as a feast for the eyes and the mind.  In the end, what I hope to leave you with is a piece that speaks to youas one chapter of life comes to an end, a new one begins.

Heather Palleiko

Jewelry/Lifecasting

Heather attended University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA studying metalsmithing and sculpture.  Working with a wide variety of materials that include various precious metals, rare woods, found objects semi-precious stones, and fibers, she has created beautiful wearable works of art for a varied clientele across the country and abroad.

In 1998 Heather took time off from full time design work to start a family with her husband. In 2000 Heather relocated to the west coast with her family and focused on being a mother. While taking a break from jewelry design Heather gained recognition as a life casting artist. She created VentreMoulage Body Casting in 2002 and continues to create beautiful sculptures for corporate and private clients.

As a lifecaster, Heather has recently been focusing on the female figure. Divine.  Empowered. Warriors.  These are words that embody the female spirit. However, they are not words that are usually chosen to describe women or the feminine. Words such as sensual, compassionate, and mother are usually _chosen as descriptive words when talking about women.

Through this body of work, Heather’s goal is to show that women have many different attributes. Empowered women can be warriors... lovers... mothers. They can be assertive and timid. Women can be sensual, erotic and aggressive. She firmly believes that ALL women are Goddesses, and through her work hopes to show that we as women have the right to own our Power... our Truth... our Story.

Finally returning to jewelry design in the spring of 2005, Heather continues to be inspired by the natural world - how plants grow, the treasures of the ocean, the ground beneath our feet, these are the things that give life to her concepts. She is currently exploring how to combine knitting techniques and wire wrapping with those of metalsmithing to create unique pieces that maintain a connection with the organic.

Through all of her work, Heather strives to communicate the beauty in nature through simple lines and forms, creating uniquely beautiful art for everyone to enjoy.

Amy Lynn Stevenson

Paintings

Born in the small town of Holdrege, Nebraska in March 1973, Amy Lynn was an artist from an early age, constantly drawing and painting. Amy Lynn's Mother, an accomplished artist and instructor, remembers that even as a young girl, Amy Lynn had a unique signature to here painting. She was encouraged to continue and went on to earn her BFA in painting from the University of Nebraska.

The artist moved to Minneapolis and for the next nine years she lived and worked as an artist. Painting over 300 commissions and selling piece after piece to even the most discerning collectors. As her real life fused with her artistic life, the romantic world in her art grew bigger and bolder. In 2004, she moved to Los Angeles, and her fan base grew. With one exhibit after another, art critics hailed Amy Lynn as "one to watch". Also a favorite among designers, the artist was recently commissioned to do a series of paintings for the New Otani Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Today her exposure reaches world wide, in galleries and collections, both public and private.

For Amy Lynn, inspiration is everywhere; the Art Deco style of Tamara D'Lempika, Picasso's bold cubism, the whimsical figures of Matisse and even in the faces and scenes of everyday life. Every image that touches her heart filters back into her work. Her romantic style reflects a unique way of looking at people and the world around her. When Amy Lynn approaches the canvas she allows the characters and stories to emerge from under the surface. Her desire is for them to personally interact with the viewer, inviting then in to join the night life.

Daniel de Ruyter

Pottery

Daniel de Ruyter was born and raised in Monrovia, Ca. His freshman year at Monrovia High School in 2001 he discovered the art of pottery through his ceramics teacher, Sal Perez. He was instantly taken with the art, and soon he was coming to class after school and on weekends just to finish his pieces. That same year, he decided to invest in a wheel and kiln to work at home. He draws his inspiration from nature, and is a naturally artistic person with a love for all art. He also plays the guitar and has a great love for music. For that reason when he throws pots he often listens to music such a Bob Dylan and Neil Young, which help him draw out his artistic ideas. He often experiments with his pottery, making his style very unique and versatile. Although he is relatively new to the ceramic community, in time he plans to have the reputation of someone who creates quality pottery.
